Is it hard for your child to make friends?

Connecting with peers is not easy for everyone.  At Cheerful Helpers, we incorporate social skills into everything we do. Children learn to share ideas and listen to others. They gain basic skills to feel successful on the playground, in the classroom, at home with family and in the community.

Understanding what a child's actions or behaviors mean is the first step in helping him or her become a better communicator. Whether a child lashes out or retreats to the corner, we know the child feels overwhelmed. At Cheerful Helpers our job is to teach children about their feelings and how to appropriately express them. Children participating in our social skills programs are grouped according to age and developmental ability. Our groups, facilitated by licensed professionals, are designed to enhance peer relationships. Everyone can benefit from learning social skills!

Does your child struggle at school?

Not all schools understand your child’s needs. At Cheerful Helpers, children’s difficulties aren’t seen as problems, but rather a part of who they are. We embrace those challenges and, with the right amount of support, we build them into strengths.

At Cheerful Helpers Therapeutic School, we provide small, language-rich classes with a 2:1 student to staff ratio, including a dedicated team of special education teachers and therapists. We teach our students how to get through a school day, as well as how to manage feelings when times get hard or overwhelming. We use visual aids and a predictable schedule to build their endurance and help decrease their anxieties about the new and unknown. We listen to what our students have to say and teach them appropriate language to express themselves. In this supportive setting, our students build confidence and make friends. You start to see a wonderful change in your child at home and in the world.

Do you wonder if it will ever get easier?

Seeing your child struggle is painful, especially when you aren’t sure what to do or where to go to find the help you are looking for.  At Cheerful Helpers, we are the only program in the Los Angeles area that helps children by supporting the entire family.

We don’t keep our countless years of knowledge and experience within the walls of our classrooms. We work with parents and families to create consistent building blocks for our children’s success. If we want to help our children be the best they can be, we need to set the right model for them to feel safe and successful.

We meet with you on a regular basis to discuss your child’s progress as well as changes or events happening at home. We provide parent groups so you can connect and feel supported by other families going through similar experiences. You don't have to feel alone on this journey.
